AIEngin102: Leveraging AI Prompt Engineering for Engineering Design Pedagogy
Modernizing Professional Learning Experiences
The AIENGIN102 course is designed to help K-12 educators leverage various prompt engineering strategies alongside Microsoft Word, enabling the co-creation of "Open-Ended Engineering" lessons with AI. Through scaffolded strategies, the course supports educators in integrating engineering design thinking into their instruction, equipping them with practical tools and approaches for innovative lesson planning.
Participants will receive exemplar resources highlighting drones as an aerospace innovation, offering valuable context and inspiration for creating open-ended engineering lessons.
Educators will co-design with AI their own resource tailored to local needs, incorporating key design features of high-quality instructional materials.
The course is research based and designed to help educators innovate their classroom methods, incorporating problem-based and open engineering design lessons that prepare students for future workforce demands.
Educators will be able to:
- Apply AI prompt engineering strategies to instructional design
- Co-Design with AI and implement Open‑Ended Engineering and Model‑Eliciting Activities (MEAs)
- Evaluate AI responsibly and critically in educational contexts
- Use Microsoft Word as a professional instructional design and productivity tool
- Develop data‑informed and evaluative high-quality AI instructional materials
- Demonstrate reflective and transferable teaching practices
- Deepen content expertise through industry engagement
This course is the 2nd course in the InSPIRE AI Pathway, building on previous coursework. Enrollment in AIENGIN102 requires prior completion of an AI101course.
AI101 is offered through Florida State University's InSPIRE initiative, serving northwest Florida with educational programs, professional development, and workforce enhancement.
Upon successful completion, participants receive two certifications including: a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, an industry certification earned by successfully passing the Word certification exam; and a professional learning certificate in AI Prompt Engineering from FSU and Microsoft through submission of lesson and passing post-course AI exams.
A stipend is awarded to participants who successfully complete both certifications and all program requirements.
