ROBO101: INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS IN THE CLASSROOM
Modernizing Professional Learning Experiences
Educators will engage in collaboration with Florida State University (FSU) faculty and industry partners to examine the integration of robotics, artificial intelligence, and engineering design in enhancing classroom instruction. Developed in partnership with Mantis Edu and Sciberus, Inc., this course features a rigorous, industry-aligned curriculum and concludes with a joint FSU, Mantis Edu, and Sciberus Robotics Foundations industry certificate.
Participants will:
Partner with FSU faculty and industry experts to apply robotics, AI, and engineering design in ways that elevate high-quality instruction and student learning.
Develop proficiency in integrating AI tools to deliver standards-aligned instruction, enhance lesson planning, and increase student engagement.
Access classroom-ready resources and methodologies designed to foster critical thinking and creativity across all subject areas.
Participate in a comprehensive, standards-based curriculum created in collaboration with Mantis Edu and Sciberus ensuring alignment with both academic and industry expectations.
Educators will co-design with AI their own resource tailored to local needs, incorporating key design features of high-quality instructional materials.
Educators will be able to:
- Build a strong foundation in robotics through engaging, hands-on, inquiry-based activities.
- Integrate durable skills to strengthen students’ transferable employability and facilitate comprehensive career readiness.
- Deepen understanding of fundamental robotics and pre-engineering concepts, including simple machines, pneumatics, hydraulics, and gears.
- Integrate computational thinking and block-based coding into your teaching across all subject areas.
- Design, construct, and program projects such as Rube Goldberg machines, simple robotic arms, and Mantis robots to apply learning in practical contexts.
- Collaborate with industry and education experts to ensure students are prepared for the evolving workforce.
- Gain insights and innovative strategies to boost student engagement and creativity in your classroom.
- Enhance your proficiency in both robotics content and research-based, effective instructional methods.
This course serves as the introductory component of the InSPIRE Robotics Pathway, establishing foundational knowledge for participants. Enrollment is available to K–12 educators, with a focus and priority given to those teaching grades 4–9. Prior experience in robotics is not required.
Participants will earn a 35-hour joint certification in Robotics Foundations from Mantis Edu, Sciberus, and FSU upon successful completion of the program.
A stipend will be awarded to participants who pass the industry certifications and complete the program requirements.
